Our Electrical Construction and Maintenance 3 course focuses on three-phase power, transformers, AC and DC motors, and conductors. Learn the difference between single-phase and three-phase voltage characteristics, delta and Wye connections, and single-phase and three-phase transformer connections. Also explore schematic diagrams, output voltage calculations, transformer calculations, ampacity calculations, and the working principle of DC motors and generators. Other topics include the operation and connection of a three-phase alternator, the basic operating principles of three-phase motors and split-phase motors, the use of the correct National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) start size for a motor conductor size, and selecting the appropriate fuse and circuit breaker for protection as per the 2024 Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) in single- and multiple-motor installations and connections.
Prerequisites
You must have completed our ELCL 9105 Electrical Construction and Maintenance 2 course. (An approved equivalents are also acceptable.)
