Our French Language Fundamentals Program meets the needs of those who wish to develop or improve their French for use in the workplace, during travel, and in everyday situations. Our live, teacher-led classes allow you to practice your speaking and listening skills through interactive exercises with peers. The required courses emphasize authenticity, active participation, pronunciation, listening skills, and role-playing and teach you the French language while also introducing you to the cultures in which it is spoken.
The French Language Intermediate Certificate is no longer offered effective immediately, and the French Language Proficiency Program will not be offered after December 2024. If you are currently pursuing the French Language Proficiency Program, note that FREN 9218 (French Proficiency 2) will be offered for the last time in Fall 2024. If you have any questions, contact the Community and Health Services Department co-ordinator for further information.
Recommendations
If you have no previous French language experience, we recommend you begin with FREN 9211 French Fundamentals 1. If you have previous French language experience and you would like to have your language skills assessed to determine the most suitable course for you to begin with, we recommend you do a placement interview with us.
