This course is designed for internationally educated nurses (IENs) completing the Nursing for IEN: Competency Upgrade Pathway.

OntarioLearn description: In this course, nursing students will be provided with opportunities to develop and demonstrate the College of Nurses of Ontario RN Entry-to Practice competencies as it relates to information communication technologies (ICTs). The students will be provided opportunities to explore the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for information and health literacies to strengthen their competence in nursing informatics. Students examine applications of ICTs in professional nursing practice at points of care, nursing administration, nursing education, research and within an interdisciplinary setting. Students develop an understanding of the professional judgment and accountability required by nurses to maintain public trust when using social media and ICTs. Students analyze the implications of technology on the quality and safety of client care. Through active learning, students determine the appropriate knowledge sources for evidence-informed nursing practice and the establishment of professional boundaries.
